I don't know how to write anymore and it's sad. I can't organize my thoughts coherently. I'm trying right now but it's so difficult. Transistions are especially rough. What if something is wrong with my brain?
I think the Quincy Sun magically appears in my mailbox. See, it comes on different days every week it seems. But I feel it does not come in with the rest of the mail? Where is it coming from? I need to find out.
So Christmas and New Years were good in case you were wondering. My resolution which i JUST figured out about two days ago is to learn to let go. I would enjoy being a little less crazy in the head and I think this might do the trick.
Last week was GOOD. I had been working on an outreach event with some cohorts and it finaly took place Monday and resulted in a nice community-esque mural which should move around the cape and hopefully inspire some. Thursday I got to help with a necropsy on a seal. Intense, yet amazing. And then some of us also did a puppet show Friday which was so fun. It's about recycling and it's sweet, these aren't no sock puppets.
Over the weekend I went back to PC which was weird because it felt so normal to be there. It was great to go back to McPhail's. What a great bar, gosh. And seeing everyone was so exciting. Only regret is that I still have "PC" on my hand in sharpie that will not come off no matter how hard i scrub.
I just started reading an amazing book and this is what my next post will feature.
Sad news, sip and stich no longer exists. Okay bye.

shrambles
I'm overwhelmed because 2006 is almost over. Christmas will be here in a week, I haven't started shopping. As always, with a new year comes new responsibilities to make it better than the last or at least keep it at an even keel. 2006 was pretty big - Costa Rica, Acapulco, Graduation and it's festivities, A handful of 1st Birthdays, a summer without work, moving to the Cape for AmeriCorps, yada yada yada... all this good stuff and the best part -- the people of course. I've been able to be with friends, make new friends, get back in touch with some people. Ferris Bueller knew what he was talking about when he said life moves pretty fast. Lately it's been hitting hard how fast the weeks go..... it feels like just yesterday i was learning to tie my shoes.
Anyways back to the present, today I spent 7 hours on a bus making people take surveys. Okay that's a lie, i spent 5-ish hours on the bus and 2-ish hours in Provincetown, aka Ghost-town because it's winter. Speaking of winter, this mild weather, while nice, is horrifying. As I was saying today, it's beginning to look a lot like Florida everywhere you goo.... I dont' know if it's global climate change or aliens or what but it's not cool, literally. Haha jk that was awful.
So next up, I have a new obsession: The Bourne DPW/Recycling center. Every week we have a different chore and so this week I was recycling. Well i'm not going to lie at first i was terrified of this job, but I went last week and got my bearings so this week i felt better about it -- an understatement.... The place looks dirty and dingy, but really it's magical. It has massive dumpsters each labelled for convenience: glass, chipboard, cardboard, newspaper, magazines.... it goes on beieve me. But it doesn't stop with dumpsters there are piles of crazy metal things, old propane tanks, hazardous waste.... I love it so much that I made Laura stop by there on our way to work because I "accidentally" forgot to bring the cardboard! Uhh I mean, just kidding....
Ahhh I miss it already. Only 13 more weeks until I get to go back.

Cry me a riverrrrrrrr...
WOAH, it's kinda been a while. I kept meaning to blog about the sweet things i've been up to like service projects at woods hole, visiting farms, taking up knitting again, and losing my glasses, but I guess i've been slackingggg. It seems like the weeks are going by really fast and I don't have the chance to Blog? Mondays are Parrot nights, Tuesday uhhh well I guess there is no excuse on Tuesday, Wednesday is house dinner/meeting, and Thursday I plant myself in front of the TV, by Friday the week is over and the weekend? Well I never really see it because it flies right on by......
uhhh more later...
uhhh more later...

Happy Halloween Sterrrlingggg
Because Amy and Kristin constantly refer to their middle school halloween play, anytime I hear "happy halloween" I think of them adding sterling at the end. Anyways, Halloween is a fun time. This past Friday we celebrated with a little halloween p-a-r-t-y? (cuz we got to) and I just wanted to share with you a picture of some beautiful beauty queens....
that would be "miss match", "miss guided", "miss behaved", "miss fit", "miss treated", "miss-tress", and "miss informed"
I'm not sure if it is clear, but i am miss match-as in fire starter- yea that got old explaing it 87 times..... come on ppl if i was miss matched i would have gotten a lot crazier with the colors.

repeat thursday
Another week is winding to a close and I am once again shocked at how fast it happens. I don't understand time. My little brain can not keep up.
Speaking of up, I finally got my down booties this week. After scouring the earth to find some, I finally ordered some online that were on sale, thenn I found some at EMS the next day, whattttttt? Anyways, a week later I had a pair on my feet and a smile on my face.
Also, it was kind of convenient that the night that i was out shopping and did not make it home in time for the office or grey's anatomy they showed repeats of both.

TICK
so if the last 4 days were a sandwich, it would be a ridiculous on sweet-bread. a-k-a friday and monday we did shellfishing and the weekend was a blend of bizarre events. i will elaborate...
friday the house went to p-town for some birthday celebrations (big ups to l.nichols and one called peaches). we went to governor bradfords which was a sweet mix of drag queen karaoke upstairs and lively dancing downstairs. i, always being the responsible one, was the designated driver, so after our good time i drove my ppl home. .... run in with the cops ensued, got a nice lil moving violation which i will protest fa sho... but the best part is that i got home and partook in 20 minutes sleep then had to drive to connecticut "the next morning". hartford marathon was the name of the game for the day. it was my first marathon experience, spectator of course... so anyways, i wish i could explain this better but the day was crazy and laura, becca and i basically used the car as a hotel room and squated in the civic center for meals while eric ran. goodtimes.
Sunday was a different story.. it included normal sleeping and activities but was especial because i went to liz clarks play with carolyn and we ended up seeing infamous.. GOOOOOD movie. i loved it.
thennnnn there was today, lets see, it started off pretty sweet, i learned to use "hog ties" and fixed up some stuff, or at least i thought i was.. rooster later told me i was doing it wrong, whatev minor detail... then i got to powerwash, still exciting... then i picked a fight with some barnicles and lost, still pumped about life, it's cool. later on i was working on moving oyster trays and tripped on a cynderblock and totally went in the water... the ulimate leaky waders. yat first it was refreshing, then i was freezing.
moral of the story is, i love shellfishing group service projects and weirdo weekends.

Hey, is that my parrot?!
The week is flyyyying. Just came off two sweet days at the test center. It's so strange I can't remember anything I did yesterday? All i remember is that I swept and mopped at the end of the day... Today, however, was much more memorable because I got to do some things by myself such as take the dissolved oxygen readings from a bunch of the systems. I also got to do something else, which i don't even know how to explain so i will not try. Yeaaa the language that is spoken at this place is not like a foreign language, it is a foreign language. When I finally fully understand what is going on, I am buying myself a sweet gift... perhaps a nice pair of down booties? Wellll I am planning on getting those anyways, so maybe something else...

AAA-CHOO
Right now I am mentally preparing myself to cope with the fact that when I wake up tomorrow morning I WILL have a cold- I can feeel it. And I want so badly for a miracle to occur so that I won't have to deal with this silliness. Seriously, what is the cold? It's just obnoxious and the worst is that I can not handle having a cold and I whine the whole time, hence this post.... Sweeet
Aside from that, the weekend was funnnnnn. I worked at an energy fair, I got to see my best friendsss, I saw my fam. Andddd it don't get much better. Last night was highly entertaining and I think that it ending with the most insane sneezing fit I have ever witnessed made it THAT much better.
Today I was unsuccessful at 1. buying black clothing friendly sneakers - i have only brown sneakers at the moment - and 2. buying a jacket for the chilliness that has been happening. I never really wear jackets? I have been entertaining the idea for some time, and now i'm pretty much forced to make it happen since i lost my sweet sweet black vest somewhere on PC's campus last semester.....
What have I been up to for work you ask? Well I mentioned the energy fair which was a good time until i accidentally somehow unleashed the fury of an older gentleman who did not want me to start organizing things for clean-up, yeaaaa. Friday we winterized some gardens --it was almost back breaking labor, lots of shovelling and pulling weeds. I loved it. During the day I grabbed the PI - poison ivy for those not hip to the lingo - by accident and so in a few days this should prove or disprove my immunity to the oozing mess of a good time.

brown thumb
today i started working at my individual placement. IPs are designed to function like internships and are 2 days a week.
i arrived 15 minutes early this morning -- surprising yes-- and got right to work planting walnuts. yeaaa not what i expected either. not to fear though, i was able to get into other things soon after. some of it was smelly and unpleasant, but overall i enjoyed the day. there are some nice folks working there and they helped me out allllll day which was sweet of them. i asked my usual number of questions... they handled it well.
it's a pretty sweet facility, there aren't many around apparently. it's right near some military place so crazy planes are taking off all the time. they are reaaaaaaally close and sometimes scary, but neato.
back to walnuts... apparently they have a henna like substance in their makeup which stains the skin. while i was planting them i of course had gloves on. buttttttttt i guess there was a hole in the thumb so nowwwww i have a brown thumb. i was told this stuff stays on the skin for about 30 days, so if you see me in the next month, please don't hate on me or call me poop thumb. thanks!

stuff and stuff
Today we got our individual placements, mine is at the alternative septic test center. What this means is that I am going to be playing with poo for 10 months. I had known this on an unofficial basis, but today I received official notice... so as of next week, work officially starts. From then on my week will run a little something like this. . . mondays and fridays = group projects, tuesdays and wednesdays = alternative septic, and thursdays is COD day. COD day is meant for community outreach and development and has a clever little name eh?
As of today I like to joke a little bit about my IP, but i'm also actually really excited about it. I'll be helping to test promising new pollution reducing technologies. And that is pretty important here on the cape considering 95% of the population uses septic systems. These systems are currently unleashing gobs of nitrogen and it's just no good. Eutrophication like woah!
OK so for my one avid reader out there whose name rhymes with gidget i'm going to try to post a little more, my guarantee will be at least thrice a week, you must hold me to that.
This week our training switched gears a bit and has been focusing on the disaster response aspect of the program. Yesterday we had some training with the cape cod stranding network and learned all about seal dolphin and whale saving protocol. Am I dreaming? Cuz i'm pretty sure I am.
Then today we got a little red cross intro.
I am inspired.

i might be immune to poison ivy
So the past two days we have been doing some land management projects.. ie attacking invasive species suck as bittersweet, honeysuckle and the stubborn and painful green briar. These baddies are taking over, they're everywhere on the cape and they just don't belong here, they are choking out almost everything. In order to unleash our fury we have learned to use some pretty sweet tools like the polaski (sp?) and loppers (large clippers?) and some saws (no CHAINsaws yet, but sooooooooooon enough). The polaski is probably my favorite because it's big and bad and you can take out roots and reeeeeeeeeally unleash your fury with it. Thing is though, yesterday was i was unleasing so much fury that i did not notice that there was a stick in front of me and what happened was it went up my nose ... u can imagine that feeling.

retreat pics
the good lifey
I know, if i'm gonna get a blog I should blog. I figure now is a good time since I can't move after eating buffalo wings and spaghetti O's (possibly the most ridiculous/disgusting combination everrrr).
So since I got here I have been trying to adjust to the new situation, the new "job", the new people, the new everything...
And surprisingly everything is going well. Last week we went on a retreat to Eastham and stayed at Coast Guard Beach for a while. It was really beautiful... we got to explore the area a bunch and do a lot of getting to know you activities. My favorite part was learning about ticks, rabies and mosquito bourne illnesses.
The weekend was also lovely, the Bourne house entertained the Wellfleet house with our sweet new karaoke machine/skills and since we can't drink at the house, we went to the pond. Oh man life is good.
This week we started actual training and did our first service project with the Mashpee Shellfish Department. IT was soooooooooooooo fun. We got to wear waders and go in the river, rake up some oyster bags, rip em open and seed em elsewhere. I have been thinking i may want to go into fisheries science in the future ....
Today we learned more about Cape ecology and caught some creatures in the salt marsh
And to conclude, life is good.

Happy Labor Day
It's been almost a week since I started this Americorps Cape Cod business. I live in the Bourne house which is in the village of Pocasset. There's also a house in Wellfleet about an hour away. There are 13 people in the house, tomorrow there will be 14. I live in a quad, goodtimes.
Today was really fun, we had the day off but we woke up and had a house cleaning then we all headed to Provincetown. We visited the Sand Dunes which were beautiful. We hiked from the highway to the beach where we stayed a while. Then we went into the downtown area to some shops and what not.
Mostly everyone is just trying to get to know one another, there's a lot of movie watching, card playing, we went out with the other house the other night, some of us went swimming at the beach when it was definitely not sunny or warm, we all went to the library and got library cards...
So yea things are good, I can't wait to actually start doing things. This week we have a retreat for a couple days and then we have training til the end of september.
And veering off track a bit, I can't believe the croc hunter died. We weren't exactly close, but i'm kinda disturbed by this.
I don't really know how to blog yet... what writing style I should try for, so bear/bare? with me for a while until i get really good at this and you will look forward to reading about my life... hah jk but yea ..
